Ok, so perhaps not the most romantic sounding of terms with regard to finding your soul mate but the term 'trawling' is one that I've now come to use when describing a technique to get a lot of interest in one hit.
People are always saying that there are plenty of fish in the sea, and luckily, there are!
So what is 'trawling'?
Well trawling is where you cast your metaphorical net out for long periods of time. Bu this I essentially mean that you're going to appear online for your chosen dating site for a large part of the day.
I'm not sure how effective this is with most sites yet as I haven't tested it out on many others but on Match.com, it works a treat.
It seems to be the case that when you're online, you get featured a lot more in I assume search results, obviously get show in the section that shows who's currently online and perhaps pushes you higher up the rankings for people 'are you interested' click box?
What you need to have in place to succeed
Before you start trawling, there are a few things that you must have in place. Firstly you need to make sure that you have a good profile. If your profiles lacking then many of the women who check it out probably won't take a second look. You only have one chance to make the right first impression. You also need to make sure that you have a premium account (a basic paid account seems to work fine). I tried this method when I was on a free account with little success, however when I upgraded, I started to get a lot more attention. It seems clear that match shows off the paid members before the free ones (and rightly so).
Once you have these two things in place, simply leave your Match account open and your computer on and then go about your day. At first I though appearing online for 18 hours straight may make me look desperate and so I already armed myself with a lot of rebuttals such as "I must of accidentally left the page open after I checked some of the emails I'd received, sorry, that's why I never replied to your IM".
As it happens, no one has ever said a word and I simply collect hundreds of winks, favorite adds, and messages, each time I do it. Then it's just a case of whittling through who looks interesting and getting started.
